Xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis

A form of pyelonephritis that results in a chronic inflammatory condition; the kidney enlarges and becomes less functional or nonfunctional; characterized histologically by the presence of lipid-laden, foamy macrophages and multiple granulomas.
